Your Driving Test
The Exeter Driving Test will take approximately 40 minutes. You will either be asked to follow road signs or a Sat Nav.
The first thing that they will ask you for on the day of your test is you Driving License, then you will be taken outside the test centre and asked to read a number plate, which we will have already done during a previous lesson.
The next thing they will do is to ask you a 'tell me' question, whilst the car is still in the car park. Take a breather because they will give you a few seconds to answer and while you can't be failed for answering this incorrectly, you will feel better if you can leave the car park without a driver fault.
The next time that they ask you a question (show me) will be whilst you are moving, if you can't remember where the function is in the car, it's better to say that you can't remember and get a fault, rather than to take your eyes off the road and get a serious fault and fail.
Stalling
Stalling is not an automatic fail, unless you hold other traffic up or you are on a blind corner where nobody is expecting you to have stopped. If you stall on the side of the road before pulling away, reset yourself (hand brake on and put into neutral) and then start again.
Going the wrong way
You can't be failed for going the wrong way, you can only get a drivers fault, unless of course you go onto the Motorway or you go the wrong way down a one way street.
Talking to the Examiner
The examiner is not being paid to talk to you, so don't feel bad for ignoring them or suggesting that you need to concentrate.
Unknown Roads
While it is unlikely, the examiner could take you on roads that have not been covered in a lesson. Just remain calm, read the road signs and assess the road.
